The Bees Knees in Cirencester is now the home of The Cheeky Swine Smokehouse & Grill.

Thanks to tenants, Neil Johnson and Julie Godley, who took over in May 2023, this popular community pub offers a menu with a real emphasis on live fire cooking of meat and fish as well as vegetables.

All the produce is smoked on the premises, too, where they have three large smokers at the back of the pub in their very own smoke shack. Add in their own sauces, seasonings and rubs, plus hardwoods for the smoking process and you have one big recipe for success.

On the traditional side, visitors will still be pleased to know this historic pub still prides itself on its Arkell's ales, premium lagers & wines, as well as hosting darts and skittles teams.

A little bit of history...

The Bee's Knees has been owned by Arkell's since 1871, but until the millennium is was known as The Plume of Feathers.

From a century ago, Cirencester had a locomotive and carriage works, just like Swindon (though on a much smaller scale), and the The Plume of Feathers was just a stone's throw away, making it a popular watering hole with railway workers.

The Midland and South Western Junction Railway's Cirencester (Watermoor) station was also close by, bringing custom from Cheltenham and Swindon. The trains have long since gone and these days the bulk of The Bee's Knees' customers are local.
