The Plough Inn, Stratton, Cirencester
The Plough is yet another of Arkell's splendid old pubs.
The front of the building is thought to go back way into the 18th century, though much of it dates to about a hundred years later. It was altered to its current state in 1970 and Arkell's purchased it in 1991.
Much more recently, the whole character of the pub has changed since the building of the new road to Gloucester. Traffic used to thunder past the pub as it passed through Stratton - which, by the way, should not be confused with the Strattons near Swindon.
The Plough is suddenly something of an off-the-beaten-track little pub with a quiet, convivial atmosphere - and well worth finding.
