Back to Pubs

Situated on the Fosse Way, close to the Roman town of Cirencester and the Roman villa at Chedworth, the Hare and Hounds offers modern-day travellers a warm welcome.

But more and more people are making a special journey to one of Arkell's newest acquisitions to sample the delicious food on offer. Everything on the exciting new menu - from the bread to the ice cream. And diners will not be surprised to learn that Gerry is a chef of real distinction, having recently been voted Cotswold Chef of the Year for his unique style of cooking.

AA rating of 4 Diamonds for accommodation plus a Rosette for food

- 10 en-suite rooms
- Award-winning food
- Ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds
- Cheltenham Festival accommodation

Gerry and Angela are also bringing their own touch of style to the pub itself, which has benefitted from an extensive and carefully-planned refurbishment.

But one of its most interesting features was uncovered by accident. Builders knocked down the gent's loo to find a 17th century fireplace in immaculate condition nestling behind a wall. They also discovered a spiral staircase next to the fireplace which originally led to the pub's first floor.

The oak fireplace, complete with original bread oven and clay pipes now takes pride of place in this superb cotswold stone pub.

Restored flagstones and a open but still intimate layout add to the wonderful cosy atmosphere. A new kitchen, toilets (including provision for the disabled) and tasteful redecoration bring the Hare and Hounds right up-to-date whilst combining its traditional rustic feel with a relaxed elegant ambiance.

If there is a pub in our region with more to offer than the Hare and Hounds, then we have yet to discover it.

Food is served every day: lunch from 12pm to 2pm and dinner from 7pm to 9pm. A changing menu is chalked up daily.
